Background:
- GMTV, ITV's UK breakfast station, was running a competition in conjunction with hair care brand, Pantene Pro-V to find a new face that was to present on the programme's LK Today show as well as feature in a TV commercial for the product
- Thousands of viewers had entered the competition and auditions were held across the UK, with 6 finalists being chosen
- Having already trained a number of GMTV presenters, producers turned to us for help in coaching the finalists and coming up with a winner
Solution:
- Half a day's coaching in GMTV's London studio, taking place immediately after the main programme came off air and using the show's production team to deliver an "as real" environment
- Finalists faced a gruelling baptism of fire as they ad-libbed to camera, presented pieces using Autocue (teleprompter) and each hosted their own "as live" LK Today show with interviews, VT's, talkback, multi-cameras etc. whilst receiving coaching throughout
- An additional production team shot behind the scenes footage as part of a feature on the competition for the main programme itself
Results:
- With just a couple of hours coaching between them, all finalists successfully presented their own "show", with host Lorraine Kelly describing them as "scarily good". All of them had been complete novices before the training
- GMTV later screened a separate feature showing highlights of the coaching and how the finalists got on
- The winner was announced at a gala ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, hosted by Amanda Holden
- The winning presenter described the coaching as "brilliant" in an interview and later successfully presented a series of reports for GMTV as well as presenting live on the programme alongside Lorraine Kelly
- She also starred in a Pantene Pro-V television commercial
