Background:
- Car production is a complex business involving massive commitments in terms of time, research and cost
- Communication is a key part of the process - from ensuring complex networks of internal teams work effectively together to powerfully marketing the end product via press launches and dealer events
- English is the main international communication language of the industry and Mitsubishi Motors Europe wanted to revolutionise the speaking abilities of its key head office staff - from the CEO down - responsible for the company's success in 34 different countries
Solution:
- A series of bespoke coaching and consultancy sessions targeted at specific events - from key motor shows like Geneva and Paris where new models were presented to the world's press; to internal events, e.g. presentations to the entire European dealer network at international "away days"; to helping designers communicate their key ideas for new motoring innovations to the Board
- In most cases, English wasn't the first language of the individuals receiving coaching and we ensured that, where appropriate, cultural styles were still respected (e.g. the Japanese presentation style is very different to the German style). In total, we worked with 36 different nationalities
- Coaching took place either at their Netherlands HQ or at various European-wide events. Given the busy schedules of key executives and the last-minute changing dynamics of international launches, coaching and rehearsal often finished within minutes of the start of major presentations
Results:
- According to the client, communication skills were "completely turned around". Across the board, preparation time was shortened, presentations were delivered without notes and delivery was more vibrant, engaging and impactful
- After continued positive feedback, we were repeatedly asked to help across the business. To date, this has included:
- Working on over 20 major events, from flaghsip motor shows to internal dealer network presentations
- Providing coaching and consultancy for the launch of four major new models
- Coaching 3 separate Group CEO's for major keynote speeches
- Helping the PR department deliver effective media launches to the world's press
- Helping the marketing department communicate their concepts both internally and externally
- Helping some of the brightest automotive design brains in the business communicate new innovations both internally and at press launches
