Hairdresser to Weather Presenter In front of 6 million viewers

07 Apr 2005

After just three hours coaching with Glenn Kinsey, viewers this morning saw housewife and hairdresser, Michelle Watkins present the weather on GMTV as part of a new ITV1 programme, "Don't Just Dream It".

Just day's ago, Michelle was unaware that her dreams of becoming a TV weather presenter were about to come true.

She was surprised at her Southampton home by the show's presenter, Jenny Powell after Michelle's family had secretly told producers of her lifelong dream.

Crash course

The mother of two was whisked to London by limo before learning about the science of weather from experts at the UK Met Office. She then spent a morning with Glenn Kinsey and his team at our London studio, undergoing a crash course in weather presenting before being taken to GMTV for her TV debut.

She was met at GMTV by their resident weather presenter, Andrea McLean, who's also a past client of Glenn's. Andrea expertly showed her the ropes before Michelle was thrust in front of 6 million viewers on the breakfast programme, first for a short interview with hosts Eamonn Holmes and Fiona Phillips and then to present the weather to the live TV audience.

A natural

After her successful debut on the programme, host Eamonn joked, "You're much better than the girl we normally have!". And weather presenter Andrea described her as "a natural".

A further surprise was waiting in the Green Room for Michelle, as her entire family had secretly made the trip up to the studios to support her.

The new programme, "Don't Just Dream It" is a feel good show that surprises people with unfulfilled dreams and gives them the chance to live them once and for all.

Produced by Prospect Pictures, the series is due to be aired on ITV1 as part of their new daytime schedule.
